We are proud to announce that Newenham have donated $25,000 to the Heysen CFS Group to support local Adelaide Hills firefighting crews after the devastating fires earlier in the year.
The Heysen CFS Group is a collective of eight Adelaide Hills brigades with the central brigade based in Mount Barker and consists of 307 volunteer members, who receive over 1,000 emergency calls a year.
Newenham’s Marketing & Sales Manager, Sheryl Mascolo, said “we are extremely grateful to all the CFS crews who work hard to protect homes and lives during the terrible bushfires. We feel privileged to be able to provide the Heysen Group with much needed funds to help support them into the future”.
“While we really hope there will be no fires this year, if the worst does happen, we are happy to be able to help support the crews and allow them to purchase more resources to help fight these fires and keep the Hills community safe,” she said.
The large donation has allowed the crew at Heysen Group to focus on a number of projects. While all funds have not yet been spent, a new thermal imaging camera and new tablets for the dashboard of their commander trucks have already been purchased.
Strategically placed in Mount Barker, the thermal imaging camera is a vital piece of equipment that identifies hot spots, exactly where a fire is still burning, and has the capacity to detect the heat of a body, enabling firefighters to act quickly to stop the blaze and save lives.
Commander trucks receive timely information from Adelaide headquarters regarding fire news, weather alerts and incidents. The new tablets with improved IT technology that are fixed and mounted in the vehicles provides an increased capability of overseeing multiple issues and allows firefighters to make faster, informed decisions as all the information is at their fingertips.
Heysen Group Officer and head of the eight Adelaide Hills Brigades, Nathan Watts, said “we are overwhelmed and very grateful for the donation from Newenham”.
“On behalf of the Heysen Group CFS team, we just want to give our sincere thanks to Newenham for this generous donation. It’s the most sizeable donation we’ve received in recent years and has given us the capacity to broaden our efforts and improve our services and operational capabilities.”
“And it’s not just about the monetary element for us, it’s also about the fact that Newenham want to help the community and recognise the local volunteers and all the hard work that they do to ensure everyone’s safety,” Nathan continued.
