Hard week at the office? We’ve got the ultimate reward – pack your golf clubs in the boot, round up your mates and head to the Hills. Just a 20-minute drive from the CBD, the Adelaide Hills is brimming with craft beers, German bratwurst, vintage cars and adventurous 4WDriving. What better reason for a road trip with your buddies?

      Day Trip Highlights

Start your morning with a drive along the meandering River Torrens and up into the Hills where you’ll discover Australia’s largest vintage motoring collection. Linger for a local lager before discovering how you can make the tree-change at Newenham. Visit an award-winning craft brewery for a guided tasting, then head to a Hahndorf icon and indulge in some authentic German meats and treats. Top off the afternoon with a hole-in-one (if you’re lucky) at Adelaide’s best kept golfing secret, surrounded by lush natural beauty.

      Day Trip Itinerary

      First Stop:  Automobile Heaven

      National Motor Museum

After a relaxing drive up the Hill, arrive at the biggest motoring collection in Australia, open from 10am to 5pm daily. Nestled in Birdwood, the historic old flour mill houses over 200 vintage cars and some incredible exhibitions. Whether you’re an automobile enthusiast or simply a history buff, there’s no better place to start your morning.

Stop Two: A cold one with lunch

       Lobethal Bierhaus

Just 15-minutes from Birdwood. These brilliant brewers craft eight beer styles plus a number of seasonal one-off’s. The beautiful brews go down even better with their seriously tasty menu––the spicy hot wings with blue cheese sauce are definitely something to try. They open at 12pm on weekends, so enjoy this satisfying lunch stop before you head off for some serious adventure.

      Stop Three: Off-Road Adrenaline Rush

      JAKEM Farm

Enjoy 359-acres of Australian landscape covered in rolling hills, tranquil creeks…and epic 4WDriving tracks. These tracks aren’t for the faint hearted, offering your daily dose of adrenaline alongside some seriously technical driving. JAKEM Farm run training courses for a range of 4WDriving scenarios, and even offer camping grounds, if you’re looking for some unique accommodation.

      Stop Four:  Discover the Tree-Change

      Newenham

Head south on Onkaparinga Valley Road, stopping off at Newenham Adelaide Hills, where you can discover how easy it is to call this place home. Drive around the wide streets and see our larger allotments for sale, surrounded by ample open space. Then, pop into the Sales and Information Centre, to learn all about the larger allotments and the strong community focus.

If you arrive before 3.30pm on the weekend you can also pop into The Kitchen Farm Pantry now located in our lovingly restored barn, open seven days a week Monday – Friday: 8am – 3pm and Saturday & Sunday: 8am – 3:30pm, serving a delicious range of fresh local produce including light brunch options, juices, hot coffee and sweet treats.

      Stop Five: Beers and Bratwurst

      Prancing Pony Brewery

Hop back in the car and make your way to Prancing Pony, only 15 minutes from Newenham. First off, head straight for the Brewshed, where you can watch the team hard at work, and take a tour of their award-winning brewery. Indulge in a guided tasting and be intimately introduced to the fruity citrus of their Sunshine Ale and the lingering spices of their four-times-hopped Pale.

      German Arms Hotel

Just five minutes down the road, is the place where schnitzel dreams are made. Couple that with bratwurst and local brews and you’ll be settling into this little piece of history for quite some time. Established in 1839, the hotel will satisfy whatever you’re craving – from bockwurst and bratwurst to weisswurst and Kransky sausages, you’ll find more mouth-watering meats here than you can fit on your plate. You can also grab a beer here, with the hotel showcasing some interesting German varieties. Don’t worry, they’re much easier to swallow than they are to pronounce.

      Stop Six: Hole-in-One

      Stirling Golf Course

One of Adelaide’s best-kept golfing secrets, the last tee off at twilight offers a 9-hole cart deal on their pristine Piccadilly Valley course. Finish your day by hitting a slice into breathtaking views as dusk creeps into the valley, or skip a few stops and get here with enough time for all 18-holes. Don’t have your own gear? You can hire everything you need from the club––just book your tee off time online before you arrive.

Head back to Adelaide, 20-minutes via the South Eastern Freeway, exhilarated and full-bellied, as you start to plan next weekend’s day trip to the Adelaide Hills.
