We’re thrilled to announce the District Council of Mount Barker Council has approved a Development Application to build an X Convenience store at Newenham on Flaxley Road, Mount Barker.
With construction set to start in November 2019, the X Convenience store will be located on the corner of Flaxley Road and Rainbird Drive. Once construction commences, it will take 16-18 weeks to complete, with the store expected to open in Autumn 2020.
The new retail offering at Newenham will create 50 jobs during construction of this $5 million project, and 10 ongoing retail positions when it is open for the local Mount Barker, Hills and Newenham community.
One of the key features of the Newenham masterplan is the retail precinct which includes a planned supermarket, specialty shops, outdoor dining and main street shopping. The X Convenience store represents the first step of this vision and will be open 24/7 to provide the Newenham community and residents of the western precinct of Mount Barker with fuel, barista-made coffee, basic staples and grocery items and a selection of fresh food.
X Convenience was selected as the fuel and convenience retailer at Newenham due to its willingness to embrace Newenham’s Adelaide Hills architectural philosophy. The design of the building will take inspiration from the iconic Newenham barn which is a significant landmark of the community, hosting weddings, markets, and other community events and festivals.
We’re excited that Newenham residents will be able to enjoy the convenience of being able to access fuel and grocery items at times that suit them as well as the level of security and awareness that the 24/7 operations will offer.
