We are delighted with the progress of the restoration on one of Newenham’s original cottages, which is on track to open its doors as our Sales and Information Centre in Spring 2016. This building is a part of Newenham’s history and we’re proud to be preserving it, whilst modernising its functionality for the communities’ benefit.
The location for the Sales and Information Centre was chosen not only because of the character of the cottage, but also because of its neighbouring infrastructure including an old barn and garage which are also being restored and improved within the context of the project character. This cottage, barn and garage take in the spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and with an exciting events program being planned, it is anticipated this little node has the potential to become a destination place for the Adelaide Hills’ community and a key meeting place for Newenham residents, particularly in the early years of the project.
It has always been our intention to plan and design Newenham as a remarkable place to live, with a truly authentic sense of style and beauty. Respecting the natural environmental features and the historic buildings that already exist on this land has therefore been paramount to Burke Urban from the beginning. It’s the reason we engaged a talented, visionary and progressive young South Australian architectural company who understand how to create great places where people come to life. Studio Gram have been involved in the design of some of Adelaide’s well known small bars and cafes and have brought this expertise to Newenham by helping to foresee the potential of these beautiful buildings. Studio Gram then worked with a range of talented local tradespeople to bring this vision to life.
