A Decade of Newenham: Celebrating 10 Years of Community

Ten years is a meaningful milestone. Not just in time, but in everything that has been built, shared and experienced along the way.

Since 2015, Burke Urban has been shaping Newenham with a clear vision – to create more than a place to live, but a community grounded in connection, quality and a genuine sense of belonging. What began as open land in the Adelaide Hills has grown into something far more significant.

Today, Newenham is a vibrant, established neighbourhood. It is a place that reflects the people who call it home. From the very first residents who took a leap of faith in 2016, to the many families who have joined since, each has played a part in shaping the character of this community.

The land itself holds its own story. From its origins as a working farm, to the careful restoration of the original farmhouse and surrounding buildings, Newenham has always honoured what came before. That legacy lives on today through places like Kitchen Farm; a space that continues to bring people together, just as it was always meant to.

In March, the community gathered to celebrate this 10-year milestone. Whilst the weather wasn’t on our side, the evening beautifully captured the essence of what Newenham is about.

Families gathered on the lawns, children ran and played with that endless kind of energy, and conversations flowed as easily as the music in the background. As the sun set, everyone settled in for a movie under the stars – a simple moment, but one that felt genuinely special.

It wasn’t just an event, but a reflection of friendships formed, of neighbours becoming mates, of a community that has grown organically over time. This hasn’t been forced, nor manufactured. Newenham is a real and authentic expression of neighbourliness and community.

As Mount Barker continues to evolve, Newenham remains quietly confident in what it offers. There’s a timelessness here, shaped by the landscape and strengthened by the people within it.

To those who have been here from the beginning, and to those who have joined along the way – thank you. You are the story. And the best part is, it’s still evolving and growing organically in to a place and community of strength and resilience.
