We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday 29 October 2019, the Mount Barker District Council and King’s Baptist Grammar School signed a shared use agreement for the new sports and recreational ground at Newenham.
The new recreation ground will help to address the growing demand for outdoor sporting facilities in Mount Barker. The grounds will be used by the Kings Baptist Grammar School and will also be available for use by Newenham residents and Mount Barker locals, aiming to increase the quality of living for the Adelaide Hills community.
The eight hectares of land off Bollen Road, bought by the King’s Baptist Grammar School, will also be home to a new Community Centre, which will include services such as a café, faith based activities, leased offices for allied health or social services providers, function spaces and a joint use recreation area.
It will also include the LifeWell Hills facility, the community arm of Mount Barker Baptist Church, which will offer personal counselling, massage therapy, nutrition & family therapy, as well as mediation and conflict resolution.
The new sporting grounds will satisfy the sporting needs of approximately 1,200 students expected to attend the school as well as community organisations and sporting groups outside of school hours. It will also include a new playing area and 100 shared parking spaces.
With the shared use agreement signed, and the land for the school now settled, the school can focus on the planning and development of the new campus which they aim to deliver over the next few years.
King’s Baptist Grammar School Principal, Don Grimmett said “This is a significant milestone and a time for celebration. We can now move forward in partnership with Mount Barker Baptist Church and see the development of our new campus. King’s Baptist Grammar School will offer families in the Adelaide Hills a school that has a strong reputation for academic excellence, performing arts, and sporting achievements, building on the fine reputation established on our Wynn Vale campus since 1983.”
Olivia Burke said “We are thrilled that our Newenham residents will have access to not only a highly-acclaimed private school but also to first-class sport and recreation grounds just moments from their own home and easily accessed by the beautiful Linear Park Trail along the Western Flat Creek.”
