Ngeringa
Kicking off in Mount Barker we’ll begin with Ngeringa, the nature-loving certified biodynamic vineyard and winery nestled into Mount Barker Summit. Originally the land was part of the famous Mount Barker home of the Jurlique herb farm, and the owners have maintained the same organic ethos. You can taste winemaker Erinn Klein and co-founder, Janet Klein’s vibrant, classically European inspired wines at the Ngeringa cellar door. Grab a cosy nook by the wood oven in the cooler months or sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view on the verandah in warmer temperatures. Relax with a glass of wine and a delicious plate of sustainably produced nibbles to munch. Howard Vineyard
Next, we turn to Howard Vineyard, a stunning family-owned Adelaide Hills winery, located between Mount Barker and Nairne. Stop by this rustic and charming cellar door for a taste of their pretty cabernet franc rosé, with the berries picked at night to reduce the overall colour – it’s millennial pink in a glass. Book for a lazy Sunday lunch and indulge in some Asian inspired cuisine at the Clover Restaurant, courtesy of head chef, Heather Day. The seasonal, locally produced menu is matched with Howard Vineyards wines – naturally. Relaxed and informal, family-friendly with lots of grass for children to run around on, this is one Hills winery you’ll be coming back to again and again.

Vinteloper Wines at Lot 100
Located in hot new location Lot 100, Vinteloper Wines are as fun on the outside but serious in the bottle. Their Cellar door delivers a premium beverage experience and is an absolutely must-visit. Make sure to indulge in some delicious pizza at Pizza e Mozzerella by Chef Tom Bubner while you’re there!
Longview Estate Winery
Pop over to Macclesfield (a 15-minute drive from Mount Barker) or make an overnighter of it with a stay at Longview Estate Winery. The view is long and the wines are fab – you really won’t want to leave this wonderful estate. Lucky for you they have accommodation to suit all tastes – overlooking their picturesque Adelaide Hills vineyards. The view of the night sky is fairly spectacular at Longview – it’s the perfect excuse to indulge for a little longer. Don’t let the views distract from the wine though, Longview Vineyards newly renovated cellar door is stunning and well worth a visit.

Deviation Road Winery
Usually a first or last stop, as this cellar door is the closest to Adelaide located near Heathfield in Longwood. Kate and Hamish Laurie share winemaking duties on their 50-hectare property, near the Scott Creek Conservation Park. It’s an idyllic location in which to sit back and enjoy the freshest of Adelaide Hills air. Sparkling is a bit of a speciality here, so grab your friends and settle in for an afternoon of bubbles and a regional tasting platter, overlooking the gardens and vines.

Simon Tolley Wines
Simon Tolley a fifth-generation winegrower has recently expanded their tasting experience to include a fabulous new cellar door in Woodside. This cellar door is a welcoming light-filled rustic space with a tin-shed-and-stone aesthetic. Offering a five varietal wine flight grown from their Adelaide Hills vineyards accompanied by a lovely plate of local Alpine cheeses reflecting the terroir of the hills. Wine enthusiasts rejoice!

Bird in Hand Winery
Mosey on over to Bird in Hand Winery at Woodside (20-minute drive from Mount Barker) for a quintessential Adelaide Hills winery experience. The land on which Bird in Hand sits has had an enigmatic past, having sheltered a gold mine and a dairy farm, it was stumbled upon by founders Andrew and Michael Nugent in the late 90s. With rich soil and the climate conditions just right, Bird in Hand winery was born. It is now one of the premier Hills wineries and deserves a visit at least once a year to remind yourself why. Incredible events, hospitality and homegrown produce are matched by their quality wines. There’s nothing like a glass of their famous sparkling overlooking the estate to ease your stresses away – even for a moment. Don’t miss their annual concerts!

Artwine
With their Cellar Door located on Bird-In-Hand Road, Woodside, Artwine varieties are food friendly, lighter in style and have complex flavours that awaken the palate. With beautiful terraces that can be enjoyed all year round, pop down between 11am to 5pm for tastings and delicious platters.

Shaw + Smith Wines
A skip, hop and a jump away (a 5-minute drive from Bird in Hand and 15-minutes from Mount Barker) we find ourselves at Shaw + Smith Wines, with the cellar door at Balhannah a gem on the Adelaide Hills winery map. Predominantly growing sauvignon blanc and shiraz at the Balhannah site, the cooler and wetter climate has resulted in some modern South Australian classics. A visit to this gourmet cellar door is a must – a lot of care and attention has gone into to creating a tasting experience you won’t forget. The wine flight matched with cheese is a particular favourite amongst visitors.

Nepenthe Wines
Literally right across the road from Shaw + Smith why not double up and hit Nepenthe Wines cellar door. With vine parcels dotted around the hills region, Balhannah is where the Nepenthe cellar door calls home. It’s a stunning location, with breathtaking views, and if the weather is kind, definitely grab a table or picnic rug and drink and eat al fresco on the lawn amongst the vines.

Popping over to Hahndorf (only a 13-minute drive from Mount Barker), stop by The Lane Vineyard for a food and wine experience with a warm welcome and mouth-watering cuisine. A modern tasting room experience is on offer at The Lane. Think exquisite contemporary food matched with exquisite fine wines. Take some time out and luxuriate in the stunning surroundings and congratulate yourself on a choice well made.

Karawatta Wines
Karawatta Wines is a hidden gem found in Sophie’s Hill Adelaide Hills Vineyard in Meadows, only 15 kilometres from Newenham. Backed by huge gums with an outset to the vineyards, this beautifully designed and stunning location inside and out is ideal for any occasion, whether it be an intimate lunch, corporate event or even a wedding. The Cellar Door offers tailored tastings and guided vineyards tours – perfect to enjoy with loved ones or the family including the pooch. Murdoch Hill Vineyard & Winery
Located behind Oakbank, this family-owned vineyard produces excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The youngest in the family and now the company’s full-time wine-maker, Michael, discovered his love of wine at an early age, studying Oenology (the study of wines) at Adelaide University before embarking on a whirlwind adventure that saw him visit some of the best wine regions in the world. Since his return to the family business, critics have been raving about Murdoch Hill wines and the accolades have begun pouring in – and it’s not hard to see why. Staying in Hahndorf, take a trip to the much-loved Hahndorf Hill Winery. The inviting cellar door is set in the heart of the vineyard – so you can taste the fruits of the wine you see growing around you. Voted as one of the ‘Top 10’ Australian cellar doors in WBM | Australia’s Wine Business Magazine, this cellar door has an ace up its sleeve for the sweet tooths out there with their ChocoVino tastings: chocolate wine tasting. Chocolate and matched wine? Run, don’t walk.

Somerled Wines
While in Hahndorf, stop into Somerled. Located at the beginning of Main Street, Somerled Wines is owned by the delightful Moody family. Offering ‘platters, wine and cheer’, the cellar bar is the perfect place to spend an evening or Sunday arvo sipping wine as you watch passersby explore the picturesque streets of Hahndorf. Book a private group tasting if you’d like, then sit by the open fire and enjoy.

Sidewood Wines
Sidle out to Verdun and drop in at Sidewood Wines cellar door. Overlooking the golf putting greens and lake, this is casual dining, Hills style – grab a table on the deck and relax with a glass of Sidewood wine and a tasting plate. If you’re after an exceptional dining experience, you can’t go past booking a table at Maximilian’s Restaurant. Think seasonal, regional menus, matched with Sidewood wines. If you fancy a stretch after stuffing yourself with food and wine, then take the SIdewood hole-in-one golf challenge. Just try not to hit the resident emu.

Wicks Estate Wines
Of course, we can’t go past the award-winning Wicks Estate Wines. With their vineyard located in Woodside, this family owned and operated wine producer are dedicated to producing high quality, estate grown wines. They have a stellar lineup of bottles on offer direct from their website and have recently been announced as a 5 Star Winery by James Halliday with eight of their wines receiving 90 points or more. It’s well worth a visit to their website but deciding on which award-winning wine to buy will be the challenge! Please note that they do not have a cellar door, but are open during regional festivals.
