With a background in real estate, Heath and his partner Jason knew what to look for, finding their ultimate compromise in life and work in their new home at Newenham.

 One of the toughest decisions in finding a new home for you and your partner is settling on a location. Ensuring your home ground is the best of both worlds when it comes to work, family, friends and lifestyle is paramount, but often it’s hard to find.

Heath and Jason have spent the past few months searching, recently discovering their dream solution at Newenham in Mount Barker. “I work in Glenelg and Jason works at Victor Harbour, so we’ve had to find something relatively central to both,” Heath says. “We’re pretty much halfway between the two at Newenham so that’s great.”

Not only was work a major concern, but the pair are also passionate about maintaining the rural lifestyle they’ve enjoyed on the south coast previously. “We’ve been renting a property at Seaford, but we’ve also just sold 10 acres at Whites Valley (near Willunga). 10 acres is far too much for us, but what we like about Newenham is that it’s still got that semi-rural aspect to it.”

It’s not just the location of Newenham, but the site itself that appealed to Heath and Jason, too. While convenience remains a priority for the duo, they also wanted all the benefits of a country lifestyle. “We just love it at Newenham – we love the rural aspect of it…it has that country living feel to it, but a good community feel as well in the village and in Mount Barker. It’s just a beautiful lifestyle they’re offering.”

While many similar estates offered the same location convenience, Heath and Jason say it was all about the little details that helped them settle on Newenham in the end. “We actually looked at several different locations in Mount Barker but the block sizes were mostly small and you had neighbours almost touching your eaves.”

Heath would know, too, with his career as a real estate agent. “I guess I know what to look for when it comes to land and builders. Our block is 1050 square metres and you just can’t find that in any other subdivision like this. It’s also really reasonably priced for that sort of block.”

With dreams of building their perfect backyard, complete with swimming pool, Heath and Jason felt their chances were limited. Now, they couldn’t be more thrilled with their search efforts. “We’ve got plenty of room and a big backyard so it will be fantastic.”

While Jason is originally from Sydney, Heath says having his family nearby (in Meadows and Strathalbyn) is also a drawcard for the couple. They’re also looking forward to spending more time together as a couple, too, with less travel time to trouble with. Exploring the new neighborhood is top of the list.

“Mount Barker is so beautiful, and it’s close to loads of other great Hills locations, too. In our spare time, it’s nice to go to Hahndorf and Stirling for lunch, and we’ve also started checking out a few others, like The Haus, Beerenberg and the German Arms. We love Prancing Pony, too, but we’ve certainly got a lot more to explore.”

They’ve signed their build contract with Metricon and and are already looking ahead to their new life in their beautiful pocket of the Adelaide Hills. “Eventually, we’re looking forward to exploring more of the walking trails. It’ll be so nice to walk around the neighbourhood and directly into the town centre, and you’ve got the wetlands and creek, too. Everything sort of ticks all the boxes with Newenham. We’re so excited.”
