For lovers of pretty blooms, gorgeous scents and the overall happiness a beautiful bunch of flowers brings, our series of Floral Design Workshops at Newenham – hosted by Liesa Iwanitza from Fleur de Lys, they’re the perfect way to spend an afternoon learning a new skill in the Adelaide Hills.
Held inside the Newenham Garage and enhanced by the enchanting aroma of fresh flowers, our workshops are held in an intimate group setting and are a lot of fun. A memorable day out for aspiring florists and beginners alike … it’s great day for besties, hens/bridal parties, and mum and daughter days … or feel free to come solo and meet some new friends.
Accompanied by Wicks Estate Sparkling and a local produce platter, Liesa shares her best tips and tricks to help participants create a floral masterpiece they adore.
So what can you expect from taking part in a floral arranging workshop?
Most importantly, you’ll learn a range of new skills including how to effectively create a solid foliage base, what to use and how to start, plus tips and tricks on colour matching and flower selection.
“You can expect to leave with a big smile, a range of new skills and a new found love for flowers after creating your very own floral masterpiece. Clients always remark that their gardens take on a whole new look after attending a “Fleur de Lys” workshop,” says Liesa.
“They embrace their new found knowledge by regularly creating gorgeous arrangements for their own homes as well as for friends and family.”
After the success of hosting Floral Masterclass workshops regularly over the past year, we’re now introducing a range of new workshops. Ideal for past participants to learn some new tricks and for newcomers to start their own floral journey.
“We regularly have clients re-booking, so we wanted to provide some new ideas which we thought would be of interest to past and present clients,” says Liesa.
“As the ‘DIY’ phase is popular right now, our workshops provide our clients with skills that would be useful for many occasions, and give them the opportunity to create gorgeous florals themselves, opposed to just selecting and purchasing them already made.”
Over the next few months, drop a few hints for gift ideas to your bestie, your husband or even your kids, as our upcoming workshops include: Bouquet Styling, Table Centrepieces, Floral Masterclass and last year’s favourite, the Christmas Wreath workshop.
“The Christmas Wreath workshop is very popular and a great way to get into the festive spirit, in what can be a very hectic time of year, but it does book out early, so be sure to book quickly if you’d like to take advantage of this wonderful workshop”
Sourcing most of the flowers from local growers where possible, with a few imports such as peonies when out of season in Australia, all of the workshops feature a variety of seasonal, unique and classic blooms.
Over the past few sessions, we’ve had some fantastic feedback from keen attendees. One of our favourite stories was when two friends came along to a workshop, a surprise for one of them who was visiting Adelaide from Singapore. She had no idea where she was being taken until she arrived at Newenham for the floral masterclass. It was a fabulous surprise as the two women had once lived above a florist during their childhood, and it brought back many memories for them from when they would go down to the shop to help out and loved the fragrance of fresh flowers throughout their home.
Here are a few comments from past participants:

Newenham and Fleur de Lys will be hosting these one-off workshops until the end of the year. Presented in the intimate setting of the Newenham Garage, we suggest you book in early to your preferred session to secure your place.
Every person will receive a pair of floristry secateurs to keep as well as a list of different local suppliers whom they can contact to purchase flowers and materials for future creations. We love to see people embrace their new found skills and share their passion with their family and friends.
