So you’re a coffee fanatic and you’re not afraid to admit it? Us too. A good caffeine hit is sometimes all you need to take your morning mood from tired and grumpy, to happy and ready to take on the day.
Here at Newenham, we like to think that coffee really does have natural superpowers. However, for that much-needed caffeine fix, you’ll need to know where the best coffee spots are to fill the void.
There are coffee shops popping up left, right and centre these days, but which places are actually worth spending your hard-earned dollars on? We know just the places that are everything you could want in a coffee pit stop (and more), and they’re all here in Mount Barker and surrounds.
Here are our picks for the best coffee in the Hills:
Kitchen Farm Pantry
Open seven days a week, Kitchen Farm was created with the intent to showcase good-quality, food from their own farm and local producers. On the menu you’ll find hot coffee, light brunch options, fresh-pressed juices, handmade cakes, savoury tarts, pies, and pastries. The café is also fully licensed, making it just as perfect for a glass of local wine with lunch as it is for a morning flat white.
The space is open yet incredibly warm and inviting, with expansive green lawns where families and friends can relax, children can play, and dogs (on leash) are welcome to socialise.
A true community hub that blends coffee, food, and connection with an immersion into the country life of the Adelaide Hills.

Pallet Cafe : Nairne
Centrally located in Nairne, this place popped up after the owner’s Matt and Sam decided to quit their office jobs and live their best lives. They have exclusive coffee from a local roaster the Husky Coffee Company, with 5 different blends available. Downstairs you’ll find modern, stylish homewares, unisex jewellery, skincare, gifts and clothing. On the menu, you’ll find toast fit for kings, with gourmet toppings freshly picked from the Central Markets. Its modern appeal allows it to stand out on the country town’s main street, but simplistic quality from start to finish – that’s what these guys are all about.

Maple and Myrtle (formerly Jambo Sana Café)
Housed in one of Nairne’s oldest buildings, Maple & Myrtle blends comforting classics with house-made signatures and a strong sense of community. At lunch, the fried chicken burger is the clear favourite – stacked high and dripping with flavour – while little diners are looked after with kid-friendly plates made for small hands.
The café leans proudly local — from flaky Uraidla Bakery croissants to ceramic cups handmade by Matilda of Really Useful Pots — and most cakes are baked fresh on site. Coffee is by Sydney’s Seven Mile Coffee Roasters, with Melbourne’s Prana Chai brought in by popular demand.
The kitchen stays open until 2pm, there’s a kids’ corner filled with books and toys, and shelves are stocked with handmade African goods sold in partnership with Australian Hope International, raising funds for women and children in need.
