Weโ€™re thrilled to announce the new Newenham Linear Park and shared walk and bike path was opened to the Newenham community at a neighbourhood gathering on Sunday 1 December and is now officially open to the entire hills community.

The shared path now gives Newenham residents an easy 2 kilometre ย walk, ride or run into the town centre of Mount Barker, providing easy access to the retail and dining heart of the town as well as the bus interchange which will deliver residents directly into the heart of Adelaide.

The shared walk and bike path sits alongside the magnificent Western Flat Creek which flows through the heart of Newenham before joining the existing path in Keith Stephenson Park.ย  This now forms a 16 kilometre round trip from Newenham through Mount Barker and on to the Laratinga Wetlands, which is one of the most successful and diverse wetlands in Australia, and the only one of its kind in South Australia.

The pathway is perfect for taking in the beautiful, natural environment of Newenham, which includes a range of native vegetation and local birdlife. The linear park also includes a bio-diversity corridor, native vegetation, wetlands and a viewing platform, which is perfect for the whole family to explore together.

Burke Urban Managing Director, Kym Burke said, โ€œthe Newenham Linear Park and shared path is an incredible asset for our residents and the local Mount Barker community, it provides easy and safe access from Newenham into heart of Mount Barker for those who love to walk, run or bike ride.โ€

โ€œIt will also provide a relaxing and safe walk for families who will attend Kings Baptist Grammar School, expected to open in 2023 with Reception- Year 2, and additional year levels added each year after,โ€ Kym continued.

Newenhamโ€™s Linear Park is also part of Adelaide Hills Sculpture trail featuring โ€˜Sculptorsโ€™ by Lui Yang which was created especially ย for Newenham. The complete Adelaide Hills Sculpture Trail is made up of 26 contemporary stone sculptures by artists from all over the world. There is also a โ€˜mini trailโ€™ consisting of 7 sculptures in Mount Barker with Newenham being one end of the mini trail.

โ€œWe consider public art an important element to wellbeing and feel privileged to have this sculpture sitting along the Newenham Linear Park shared walking and bike path,โ€ Kym concluded.

Mount Barker District Council Mayor Ann Ferguson, and Marketing & Sales Director of Burke Urban Developments, Olivia Burke officially opened the trail for the whole hills community to enjoy.
