On Sunday 22 July 2018, we welcomed our residents to join us for another afternoon of community fun and the chance to meet and mingle with their fellow neighbours at another of our full-filled neighbourhood meet & greets.
With an increasingly growing community, more than 100 of our current and future residents gathered at the Newenham event space, adjacent to the Sales and Information Centre, to chat about their building updates, their big ideas for the future and what they love most about their tree-change to the Adelaide Hills.
It was a gorgeous sunny day at Newenham and the community spirit from our diverse group of residents made it a truly special event to be a part of. While children played on the grass and at the activities table, young and old families mingled and discussed their current and future lives at Newnham, all while enjoying a delicious pizza lunch courtesy of Paris and the team from Amorรฉ Woodfired Ovens.
A number of our residents have already moved into their dream homes with more than 20 new resident homes currently under construction. Newenham is certainly buzzing with activity even throughout the cooler months.
At this particular event we also celebrated a huge milestone moment in the progress of Newenham, planting our first verge along Newenham Parade and wrapping up around the Burton Street corner.
This was a fantastic opportunity to include our residents, as well as Mayor Ann Ferguson, in landscaping and beautifying the area, with adults and children all eager to indulge their green thumb.
In total, 150 different native species were planted surrounding the standing trees. It was a fitting milestone with National Tree Day, Australiaโs largest tree-planting and nature care event. We are proud to continue this growing movement and further our dedication to preserving the existing trees at Newenham.
While environmental awareness doesnโt necessarily spring to mind, the team at Burke Urban consulted arborists, scientists and environmentalists when developing the thoughtful masterplan for this beautiful pocket of land.
All of our trees have been treated with care and a healthy dose of H2O thanks to the installation of TreeNets patented Inlets combined with Leaky Wells. A ground-breaking initiative, invented in South Australia by David Lawry.
A leaky well (or soak well as they are sometimes called), is a 350-litre roadside device that captures excess storm water off the road, or from the adjoining roof runoff to the kerb, during rain events.
The technology of the Leaky Well means that 350 litres of water is directed into the well every time a rain event occurs and will “leak” out when needed, resulting in a faster growth rate, a higher survival rate and a longer life expectancy for all our trees and verge landscaping.
While planting our first verge this past weekend, we were able to show our residents the Leaky Wells and further explain the benefit for the environment, something the Burke Urban team are very proud of.
To find out more about securing your future in this thriving community, come and experience Newenham for yourself, then pop into the Sales and Information Centre. Weโre open every day from 12-5pm at 164 Flaxley Road, Mount Barker. Or you can book a site tour at a time that suit you.
We look forward to welcoming you to Newenham soon.
