We’re thrilled to advise the inaugural Adelaide Hills Oktoberfest is being held at Newenham on Saturday October 27th.

This event is being run by the acclaimed local Prancing Pony Brewery and will be a very authentic, traditional, folk festival aimed at families and friends in celebration of traditional German culture.

Oktoberfest is known as a large Volksfest (people’s fair) folk festival and celebrates community, agriculture, produce and of course, quality beer.  The event will be dressed in blue & white and feature long share tables to meet new and old friends. We encourage you all to embrace German attire and come dressed in your best hat, lederhosen and dirndls. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as you will have the opportunity to learn The Schuhplattler (German Slap Dancing).

The inaugural festival will be a family friendly affair with music, traditional dancing, costumes, games and entertainment, beer and off course plenty of German style food including breads, smallgoods and plenty of other delicious treats. Prancing Pony Brewery will also be brewing two specially created, traditional German style beers, which will be served in 1 litre steins.

The festival will deliver a traditional and authentic German Cultural Oktoberfest; and what better place to do it than the Adelaide Hills. It is ideally suited to hold a festival to celebrate all things German; after all, it is the home of South Australian German settlement in 1845. The German settlers chose these rolling green hills to live, work & play – which is still evident today.

We look forward to creating a family friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy the day’s onstage entertainment, food & relax on the grass. As the afternoon progresses, so will the festival with live music and German Schuplattler (German Slap dancing), more food and of course Oktoberfest beer.

For the beer enthusiasts, Prancing Pony Brewery will teach you everything you have ever wanted to know about traditional German brewing in a Beer Masterclass.
