Newenham are excited to announce we are now the major sponsor of the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market in Mount Barker!
The Market is built on sustainability and provides a marketplace where people can access fresh, local produce and products direct from the farmer or producer. It also provides an environment for fun and entertainment, while celebrating cultural diversity and delivering education about healthy food choices through a range of interesting initiatives.
The Nourish Tent is just one of these initiatives that entertains and educates children as they make their own delicious, nourishing snacks using seasonal, locally grown produce. The Nourish tent offers a simple food assembly activity for small groups of twos or threes, booked in 10 minute time slots, which engages kids from start to finish – they have lots of fun and learn valuable skills along the way.
The Adelaide Hills Farmers Market specialises in local, fresh and seasonal produce and customers can buy an enormous range of fresh produce including flowers, bread, eggs, meat, smallgoods, wine, juices, jams, chutneys, pasta, olive oil, honey and anything else that is either grown or produced locally providing significant social, health, environmental and economic benefit to the region.
The sense of community and the authentic hills experience created and promoted by the markets resonates closely with Newenham’s community values, making our new partnership a perfect fit.
This collaboration aligns with some of Newenham’s own future community goals such as establishing the community farm, market café and produce store.
Jon, a Committee Member and market stallholder, recently said “Finding a sponsor is never a straightforward matter. As Newenham has taken an interest in us and offer us opportunities to promote clean, green food with a face, we have decided to run with them to build the market. There have been a few who criticised the acquisition of a developer as sponsor, but the potential benefits for our market outweigh any concerns over farmland being subsumed by new housing. No one loves to see farmland disappear, but it is the farmers’ land to sell and life must go on. When entrepreneurs acquire land, it adds to the economy, creates jobs and entices more people to the area. This particular developer is demonstrably considerate to the land, has a genuine community-friendly focus and seeks green solutions wherever possible. In the greater scheme of things, it is crucial that farmers markets flourish and multiply, as all the indicators point to reducing carbon emissions along with food miles to promote a clean, green return to eating local.”
And we at Newenham couldn’t agree more. Our residents are delighted to be living in this beautiful pocket of the Adelaide Hills and often mention how much they love exploring the region and the delights within it.
And that’s why we’re also thrilled to announce a series of three twilight events to be held at Newenham in conjunction with the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market.
The “Feel Good Friday” twilight sessions will be held at Newenham once a month during Summer. The first Feel Good Friday is on December 8 from 5 – 8.30pm and will be a perfect way to unwind after a busy week at work.
Come and join us to enjoy some fabulous local food and drinks, live music, and fun stuff for the kids to do. There’ll be a range of interesting market stalls to explore and plenty of room to relax and unwind as the sun goes down over the beautiful, natural environment at Newenham.
There will be a variety of stalls on show including artisan stalls showcasing ceramics, candles, clothing, jewellery and much more. There are also a range of local produce stalls offering honey, dukkah, spices, pickled and fermented foods, nuts, gluten free foods, coffee beans, crusty breads and more.
Feel Good Fridays will be held once a month during Summer, so pop these dates in your diary and be sure to come along and join in the fun: December 8, January 19 and February 16 from 5 – 8.30pm. Click here to find out more.
